Techs4Education and Excalibur Cycle Portsmouth to Swindon

On 29th June, 9 of the team from Excalibur and Techs4Education cycled a whopping 74 miles each as part of their ‘cycle around the world in 80 (working) days charity event.

The target for the challenge is 18,000 miles to be achieved by 19th July having started in March.

One of the Excalibur support team members Tony Jones lives in Portsmouth and it was his idea to complete the ride door to door.

A lot of supplies were needed for the team to keep their energy up so we enlisted the help of their customers Cotswold Outdoor to provide various items including water bottles, water tablets, gels and most importantly saddle sore cream!

Bespoke shirts were provided by Owayo and several pit stops along the way were booked. The route was planned meticulously and support driver Stuart Hutchings enlisted the help of his Dad to navigate.

The team departed from Portmouth bright and early at 7am making two refreshment stops along the way in Stockbridge and Great Bedwyn, some serious hills, bumpy roads and 74 miles later they arrived at a respectable 4pm at Excalibur HQ.

For most of the team, this is the longest cycle they’ve ever completed which makes the challenge even more impressive. Excalibur CEO Peter Boucher, an avid cyclist himself commented; ‘I am seriously impressed with the team spirit shown today, there were points in this journey that were absolutely not easy but they were met with grit and determination from everyone. I’m very proud to say everyone in the team made it from start to finish, stayed together and we took in some great scenery too. This is a huge achievement towards the end of our charity challenge.’

With the journey completed, Excalibur & Techs4Education are closing in on final 2,000 miles using a combination of static and road bikes. Watch this space for the finale!
